Gisele Camargo has a very strong connection with landscapes, revealed in a fascinating way in "The Building of the small worlds". The long series of collages began when Gisele was looking for a purpose for her old photographs. Today, the collages connect with the experiences of her past and the elements of the mountainous landscapes she finds in Serra do Cipó, where she lives and works. Her work creates a connection between the present and the past, transforming each fragment of the landscape into a small world full of memories, textures and experiments, using nature as raw material. This beautiful collection was photographed in the @athanatosdevelopments office.

A longa série de colagens começou quando Gisele procurava um propósito para suas fotografias antigas. During the Hellenistic period, people began collecting artworks, making copies of the most famous works if they could not acquire them, or paying high prices for the originals. In the photo, we have the marble sculpture of a fleeing Gallic warrior, dating from the 1st century AD, restored possibly at the request of the Barberini family themselves, and which to this day belongs to their museum collection.

Durante o período helenístico, as pessoas passaram a colecionar obras de arte, fazendo cópias das obras mais famosas, caso não pudessem adquiri-las, ou pagando altos preços pelos originais. Na foto, temos a escultura em mármore de um guerreiro gaulês em fuga, datada do século I d.C., restaurada possivelmente a pedido da própria família Barberini, e que até hoje faz parte da coleção de seu museu.

Haegue Yang's works unfold in various media, usually installations, sculptures, videos, photographs and texts. In the exhibition "Quasi-Colloquial", presented at Pina Contemporânea in São Paulo, the artist introduces, in a different way from what we are used to seeing, the work "Alien Colloquial [Colloquial Alien], 2022". The artwork consists of large site-specific collages that abstractly present her perspective as a foreigner in Brazil. The collages combine typical elements of Brazilian culture, such as the exotic flora, landscapes, architecture, and music, as well as the social and political issues that permeate the country, such as repression, crime, currency devaluation, etc.

Os trabalhos de Haegue Yang se desdobram em diversas mídias, geralmente instalações, esculturas, vídeos, fotografias e textos. Na exposição "Quasi-Colloquial", apresentada na Pina Contemporânea, em São Paulo, a artista apresenta, de uma forma diferente do que estamos acostumados a ver, a obra "Alien Colloquial, 2022", que consiste em grandes colagens site-specific que apresentam de forma abstrata sua perspectiva como estrangeira no Brasil. As colagens combinam elementos típicos da cultura brasileira, como a flora exótica, as paisagens, a arquitetura e a música, bem como as questões sociais e políticas que permeiam o país, como a repressão, o crime, a desvalorização da moeda etc.

Vincent may have thought the field was "healthy and fortifying", but his illness and worry about the future were too much for him. It may have been his way of dealing with financial and mental health anxiety and loneliness. It became evident that the artist was inspired by the landscape, with wheat fields being a recurring theme in his work, depicted at different times of day and perspectives. "Haystack Under A Rainy Sky", one of his last productions, presents a tall, golden mound of wheat with dark, stormy clouds hovering in the background.

Vincent pode ter pensado que o campo era "saudável e revigorante", mas sua doença e preocupação com o futuro eram demais para ele. Pode ter sido sua maneira de lidar com a ansiedade sobre sua saúde financeira e mental e com a solidão. Ficou evidente que o artista se inspirou na paisagem, com os campos de trigo sendo um tema recorrente em seu trabalho, retratado em diferentes momentos do dia e em diferentes perspectivas. "Haystack Under A Rainy Sky" (Palheiro sob um céu chuvoso), é uma de suas últimas produções e apresenta um monte de trigo alto e dourado com nuvens escuras e tempestuosas pairando ao fundo.

Jaime Lauriano's artwork, "Colonization No. 2", provokes deep contemplation on the religions of the African matrix in Brazil, emphasizing how they were a result of violent processes that shaped the country's history. The sculpture uses candomblé and Umbanda instruments and Portuguese stones that symbolise colonisation. The work celebrates the resilience of the African people and their descendants while condemning the structural racism and religious intolerance that unfortunately persist in contemporary Brazilian society.

A obra de Jaime Lauriano, "Colonização nº 2", provoca uma profunda contemplação sobre as religiões de matriz africana no Brasil, enfatizando como elas foram resultado de processos violentos que moldaram a história do país. A escultura utiliza instrumentos do candomblé e da umbanda e pedras portuguesas que simbolizam a colonização. A obra celebra a resiliência do povo africano e de seus descendentes, ao mesmo tempo em que condena o racismo estrutural e a intolerância religiosa que infelizmente persistem na sociedade brasileira contemporânea.

Damien Hirst's exhibition 'Where the Land Meets the Sea', presented by HENI with support from the artist's galleries Gagosian and White Cube, is on display at Phillips Gallery in London until 18 August 2023. The exhibition features three series of oil paintings by Damien Hirst: Coast Paintings, Sea Paintings and Seascapes, inspired by the British coast, which highlight his abstract pictorial viewpoint on seascapes. The idea to “imagine peace” came from Yoko Ono

The idea to “imagine peace” came from Yoko Ono’s work with her husband, John Lennon, in 1969, when they held peaceful anti-war protests known as "Bed-in", a performative act that lasted two weeks in the couple's suite where they sought to communicate their commitment to social justice. During March 2022, adverts on the world's most prominent billboards were paused every evening at 20:22 to display "Imagine Peace". The campaign reached millions of people worldwide, where print versions of the intervention were sold, and 100% of the profits were donated to the United Nations emergency fund. This was organised by Circa Press. The image collection belongs to the @athanatosdevelopments office, where we can see six pieces.

A ideia de "imaginar a paz" veio do trabalho de Yoko Ono com seu marido, John Lennon, em 1969, quando eles realizaram protestos pacíficos contra a guerra conhecidos como "Bed-in", um ato performático que durou duas semanas na suíte do casal, onde procuraram comunicar seu compromisso com a justiça social. Durante o mês de março de 2022, os anúncios nos outdoors mais importantes do mundo foram pausados todas as noites às 20h22 para exibir "Imagine Peace". A campanha alcançou milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo, onde versões impressas da intervenção foram vendidas, e 100% dos lucros foram doados para o fundo de emergência das Nações Unidas. O evento foi organizado pela Circa Press. A coleção de imagens pertence ao escritório @athanatosdevelopments, onde podemos ver seis peças.

In this work by Leonardo Meoni, there is quickly some idea of memory that tries to remain alive. It reminds us of the phenomenon of missing memories of a dream in the first seconds after waking up. It is an exercise of collecting and keeping memory. The choice of fabric as a material for the work brings to mind the artist Rosemarie Trockel. While Trockel's early works are political and objective, Leonardo's presents a more dreamlike quality.

Nessa obra de Leonardo Meoni, percebe-se rapidamente uma ideia de memória que tenta permanecer viva. Isso nos lembra o fenômeno das lembranças perdidas de um sonho nos primeiros segundos após o despertar. É um exercício de coleta e manutenção da memória. A escolha do tecido como material para o trabalho traz à mente a artista Rosemarie Trockel. Enquanto os primeiros trabalhos de Trockel são políticos e objetivos, os de Leonardo apresentam uma qualidade mais onírica.

The painting "Fleur de Ballade" (2022) by contemporary artist Behrang Karimi (born in 1980 in Shiraz, Iran) depicts the common subject of flowers in a ghostly, ethereal way, building a mysterious atmosphere. Although the subject is common in art, the way Karimi approaches the composition is unique and challenging. The arrangement of the elements is complex and intriguing, creating for the visitor a rich possibility of narratives when appreciated together with other pieces within the same room, part of Palai 2023.

A pintura "Fleur de Ballade" (2022) do artista contemporâneo Behrang Karimi (nascido em 1980 em Shiraz, Irã) retrata o tema comum das flores de forma etérea e fantasmagórica, criando uma atmosfera misteriosa. Embora o tema seja comum na arte, a maneira como Karimi aborda a composição é única e desafiadora. A disposição dos elementos é complexa e intrigante, oferecendo ao visitante uma rica possibilidade de narrativas quando apreciada em conjunto com outras peças na mesma sala, que faz parte da Palai 2023.
